About Me
Took the Queens shilling 15th November 1961 and went to 1TRRE at Cove. After completion of basic training and drivers course went to SEME at Bordon to do trade training with REME as a vehicle mechanic. Joined 7 Field Squadron on 01/04/63 and worked in the LAD until posted on 04/09 66. Being a mechanic and having a beret like an oil slick it was like a thorn in the side for Jerry Heap. in fact it was our main topic of conversation.

About Me

From training in Cove I was posted to 7 Sqn. in January 1962. I spent 3 years and 3 days in 1 Troop.

About a year and half were spent in the saddle of the old BSA M20 (& the odd hour up in the Belfry). Sharing a room with Ted Cooper, Ginge O’Reilly, Sammy Singleton, Barry Makin, Paul Timms, Ben Brooker etc must have taken its toll. However, the good news is my therapist tells me that it should all get back to normal in a couple of years now!

From Osnabruck I joined 20 Field Sqn. spending time in Maidstone, Aden and Bahrein. I left the army in 1967 returning to South London. Now living in Blackwood South Wales, retired involve in the Credit Union movement.

I stumbled across the website a week before your Buxton reunion. Some of the names on the Roll brought back memories of great times.

About Me

I joined 7 Squadron on the 16th Nov 1966, I remember that date as it was my birthday. The weather was cold, dark and miserable, however, the guys in 2Tp soon made me feel welcome.  In April 69 I posted 11Sqn in Malacca where I remained until the Army's pull out in Jan 71, when I then joined 54 Sqn in Hong Kong.  I returned to UK in September 72, on a posting to 50 Sqn with whom I remained until 75 when I joined 40 ASR, with no idea, at that time, that this would be my last as my last RE posting.  In 1978,  I transferred to REME as an Artificer serving with 2 Gren Guards   then 4 Armoured Workshop before my final tour as ASM of 2 Field Regiment Workshop.

The saying once a sapper always a sapper is a definite truisim.

I look back on my time as a sapper with great affection and in particular the time I spent in 7 Sqn
